As a homeschooling mom of two, finding time to take nutrition clients again was challenging. When I first started my practice, I had three different packages to choose from depending on your personal health journey but I still offered 2x 1 hour zooms and then 1-2x 30 minute follow-up zoom calls. This meant that I needed my husband or mom to be with my son a few times per week for a few hours. Once my mom was diagnosed with cancer, her and my dad packed up and moved to Arizona for her to get treatment at an integrative cancer center. Along with not having them here to help and my husbands demanding work schedule, the zoom calls were becoming too much.
We are a very-limited-screens family but without anyone here to watch my son during all of my zoom calls, screens became a go-to. This added to the cons of seeing nutrition clients and when my mom wasn’t doing well with her treatments, I finished up with my current clients and told my waitlist ladies that I, unfortunately, couldn’t see anymore clients.
When I was 7 months pregnant with my daughter, my sweet mama went back to Heaven. It was, and still is, a grief that can’t be put into words. I took a long break from client work but I did create an online course & community during this time so women could still get the help they needed. I was still getting DMs and emails asking when I was going to open up my client list though as I know many still need that personalized touch. I didn’t see how I was going to make it work, especially since I had two children now and one still very dependant upon me. I didn’t see it until I was at my Bible group.
My Bible group is amazing and these women have become close friends. We share a lot together and health issues kept getting brought up in discussions and so I finally started giving out tidbits of friendly advice. A few of the moms came to me and asked if I could help them, no zoom calls necessary, just texting or meeting in person with our kids if need be. Now, this I could do.
With my first friend-client, I had a lightbulb moment: A personalized presentation that showed her test results and my recommendations for nutrition, lifestyle, and supplements. I explained why for each of them and created a slide show so she could listen and watch it as many times as she needed without having to take notes.
The presentation was a hit and I received a text from her not even three weeks later letting me know her top two health goals had already been achieved! It made me realize how much I do miss taking 1:1 clients and creating a personalized experience without hours of zoom calls away from my children was a possibility!
I mean c’mon, us busy mamas can barely schedule phone calls with our best friends, let alone someone else! I know this all too well but we 100% still deserve help, support, and guidance. We are worthy of wellness, even if we can’t schedule zoom calls and phone calls and face-to-face meetings. This is where I come in.
